Grade 7 Awards
Introduction

To both encourage and recognize excellence in academics, athletics, fine arts and school service, Ecole Elementaire Ladner Elementary School presents commendations and awards to grade seven students who demonstrate high levels of achievement, effort, creativity and leadership. This brochure is designed to inform students, parents and guardians about school commendations and awards and their criteria. Please take some time to review and discuss this information with your child.

Academic Achievement Commendation

To receive an Academic Achievement commendation, students must achieve a B average in the academic subjects of Language Arts (and in both French and English Language Arts for French Immersion students), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Core French (French as a Second Language - F.S.L.) on all three formal, written report cards. 

Academic Effort Commendation

To receive an Academic Effort commendation, students must achieve a “G” for work habits in the academic subjects of Language Arts (and in both French and English Language Arts for French Immersion students), Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, and Core French (French as a Second Language - F.S.L.) on all three formal, written report cards. 

“G Club” Commendation

To receive a “G Club”  commendation, students must achieve a “G” for work habits in all subject areas on all three formal, written report cards. 

Improved Student Commendation

To receive an Improved Student commendation, students must demonstrate, from September to June, improvement of at least two letter grades in three of the key academic areas (French/English Language Arts, Math, Social Studies, Science and Core French) while maintaining a strong effort and positive attitude.

Athletic Commendation

To receive an Athletic Commendation, students must achieve a “B” average and a “G” for work habits in Physical Education on all three  formal, written report cards; participate in at least three extra-curricular school sports; and demonstrate a high level of leadership, sportsmanship and skill development in allschool athletic activities.

Fine Arts Commendation

To receive a Fine Arts Commendation, students must achieve a “B” average and a “G” for work habits in Fine Arts on all three  formal, written reports anddemonstrate excellence the various strands of Fine Arts by:
- presenting a portfolio of visual art work; and
- participating in District/school/class performances

Service Commendation

To receive a Service Commendation, students must serve as a role model to others by demonstrating a positive attitude towards school, teachers, and peers.  These students will also have demonstrated responsible, long-term and reliable service in at least three of the following areas:

  • office monitor;
  • attendance monitor;
  • crossing guard;
  • library monitor;
  • lunch monitor;
  • intramural athletics
  • SWAT member
  • WE Group
Leon Ladner Award

The Leon Ladner award is presented to the grade seven student or students who demonstrate the highest level of achievement in academics, athletics, fine arts and school service.  To receive a Leon Ladner Award, students must:

  • achieve “A” standing, with no more than one “B”, in English/French Language Arts, Mathematics, Social Studies, Science, and Core French on all three formal, written report cards;
  • achieve a “G” for work habits in all subject areas on all three  formal, written report cards.
  • demonstrate a positive attitude throughout the year towards school, teachers and peers; and
  • participate in extra-curricular school activities in the following categories:

    - SERVICE  (long-term and reliable service to the school in at least 2 areas);
    - ATHLETICS (at least two of volleyball, basketball or track)
