Happy 2018!

Dear Ladner Elementary Families,

Happy New Year to you and your families! I hope that 2018 is a wonderful year for everyone in the Ladner Elementary community! Term Two promises to be an exciting one and the staff here are recharged and ready to lead our students through more learning opportunities. Term Two is always exciting times!

The start of a new calendar year is always a great time to re-visit things that are important. For us here at Ladner Elementary, one thing that is very important to us is helping our students learn all the ways they can S.O.A.R. (Show Our Absolute Respect). Everyone in the Ladner community S.O.A.R.s when they show respect for themselves, for others, for the environment and for learning. I encourage you to spend some time talking with your child about the countless ways they can show respect in these four domains. We plan to further highlight these in the months ahead!

Our Winter Carnaval will take place on Friday, January 26th. It is a school-wide celebration based on the Carnaval in Quebec. The staff is planning activities for the day which will reflect aspects of the real Carnaval. We will even have a visit from Bonhomme!

In order for the day to run smoothly, parent volunteers are needed to run activities. If you are available to help please email Madame Dockerill at:  hdockerill@deltasd.bc.ca and let her know. We are probably going to need approximately 60 parent helpers and the following supplies for stations:

  • shoe boxes
  • paper towel and toilet paper rolls
  • large and small plastic yoghurt or sour cream containers

All items can be dropped off on the stage in the gym. Please don’t feel the need to hold back, we need a lot of each of the above items (roughly 500).

Stay tuned for more information in the days ahead and thank you in advance for helping make our Carnaval a success!

Sincerely,

Jeff McCallum
